Once upon a time – back in “cave days” – airplane travel was not the “go to” for taking trips. People drove the rural highways. In 1979 Frank Rowsome, Jr. even wrote a history of the Burma Shave signs – “The Verse by the Side of the Road.” I wonder how many people bought Burma Shave because of those signs.
I think of those now when I see a series of fence posts with something like “Jesus came…To make a way…Are you ready…If He comes today?” And I wonder, how many people get saved because of those signs? How effective are those “JESUS SAVES! Call 800/……..” billboards?
Those tools never touched me. Neither did Billy Graham. But different people and methods reach different people.
The Gospel is for everyone. But in Acts 16, we find Holy Spirit stopped Paul from preaching in Asia and Bithynia – now western and northwestern Turkey. However, 1 Peter 1:1 shows the gospel did get there. It just didn’t get there then, by him.
Not everyone is called to witness to everyone every time. But everyone is called to witness to someone sometime.
