I’m reading Scott Adams’s book Loserthink. Adams says, “Loserthink isn’t about being dumb, and it isn’t about being uninformed. Loserthink is about unproductive ways of thinking.” People are taught to think about things a certain way. For example, an engineer thinks about things differently than a lawyer generally will. And if you use the thinking technique of only a single discipline, your thinking won’t be as productive as it could be.
In a section on making comparisons, Adams notes that “knowing how to read music and knowing which keys on the piano correspond to those notes does not make you a musician.” I thought, that’s like knowing how to spell and knowing where letters are on a keyboard doesn’t mean you know how to type. I’m sure you can come up with your own examples. But two others struck me as more significant.
There’s a difference between knowing about Jesus, and knowing Jesus. There’s a difference between knowing the Word, and believing and claiming the Word for yourself. The difference is the difference between knowledge and relationship.
A musician has a relationship with his instrument. The relationship was established by spending time together. What’s your relationship with the Lord? Does His word abide in you?
