Peanuts character Linus once said, “I love mankind…it’s people I can’t stand!!” I see some similarity in uproars over flag protests. It just seems that some people are more passionate about the flag than they are about the nation the flag represents. I thought of that this morning as I read Deuteronomy 4:15-17: “Take careful heed to yourselves, for you saw no form when the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, lest you act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal…” (NKJV). The Lord knew it was our nature to imitate things we idolize. To worship an image we can understand with our senses, rather than reverence the thing itself. Is your faith in God? Or only in the God your brain can comprehend?
